Coconut Matting Jute 2m x 50m x 450gsm

SKU: 6171-CCJM450

$390.00 + GST

Coconut Matting 450gsm covers exposed soil on the steeper cuts and higher-flow channels where a lighter mat won't hold. Bare ground on a steep batter or a channel carrying stormwater is under constant pressure: fast-moving water scours loose soil away, and steep grades give rain nowhere to slow down before it hits the surface. This mat carries more coir fibre per square metre than the standard 300gsm option, so it has more mass to resist scour while the open weave still lets light and water reach the seed underneath. Each roll covers 2m x 50m and weighs around 40kg. It's stitched together with jute twine and is fully biodegradable. It breaks down naturally as vegetation establishes over the site. Civil and earthworks crews reach for the 450gsm option on steeper batters and higher-flow drainage lines, where the standard weight isn't enough to hold through the first heavy rain.

What is Coconut Matting Jute?

Coconut Matting 450gsm covers exposed soil on the steeper cuts and higher-flow channels where a lighter mat won’t hold. It’s stitched together with jute twine and is fully biodegradable. It breaks down naturally as vegetation establishes over the site. Civil and earthworks crews reach for the 450gsm option on steeper batters and higher-flow drainage lines, where the standard weight isn’t enough to hold through the first heavy rain.

Benefits

  • Holds up on steeper batters and higher-flow channels where lighter matting washes out
  • Resists scour from fast-moving water thanks to a denser coir fibre weave
  • Open weave still lets light and water through, so seed underneath keeps germinating
  • Lays flat against steep grades without kinking or wrinkling
  • Holds moisture in the topsoil, helping seed establish faster than bare ground
  • Fully biodegradable coir and jute construction, breaks down once vegetation takes over
  • Comes in a 2m x 50m roll, matching the standard 300gsm option for easy ordering

Main Applications

  • Protecting steep cut batters and high-angle slopes after earthworks
  • Lining stormwater channels and swales carrying concentrated flow
  • Stabilising streambank and waterway margins exposed to fast-moving water
  • Covering large exposed cut faces on demanding civil and earthworks sites
  • Upgrading protection on sites where standard-weight matting has washed out before

About Coconut Matting Jute

How to install

Coconut Matting Jute

  1. Grade and clear the area of large stones, clods and debris so the matting sits flush against the soil.
  2. Spread seed and any fertiliser over the prepared soil before laying the matting.
  3. Dig a small anchor trench across the top of the slope or channel, roughly 150mm deep and wide.
  4. Unroll the matting down the slope or along the channel in the direction of water flow, starting from the anchor trench.
  5. Backfill and compact the anchor trench to lock the top edge of the matting in place.
  6. Pin the matting down with ground staples along the edges and at regular intervals across the roll, keeping it flush with the soil.
  7. Overlap adjoining rolls by at least 150mm and staple through both layers to stop water getting underneath.
  8. Check the full area for gaps or lifted edges once installed, adding extra staples on steeper sections under more pressure from water flow.
