Coconut Matting - 300GSM - 2m x 50m 50m

SKU: 6171-CCM300

$245.00 + GST

Coconut Matting 300gsm covers exposed soil straight after earthworks and holds it in place while grass gets established. A freshly graded slope or cut batter is exposed to rain and wind until vegetation takes over, and without cover, topsoil washes downhill before seed has a chance to germinate. This matting weaves 100% coir fibre through a photodegradable polymer mesh, which holds the mat together on site while the open weave still lets light and rain reach the seed underneath. Each roll covers 2m x 50m, weighs around 36kg and is roughly 5mm thick. The coir fibre itself is biodegradable, but the polymer mesh binding is not. That makes this the general-purpose option for standard civil and earthworks sites, rather than waterway margins or wildlife corridors where the jute-bound matting is the better fit. It lays flat on steep grades and holds moisture in the topsoil, so seed establishes faster than on bare ground.

What is Coconut Matting - 300GSM - 2m x 50m?

It lays flat on steep grades and holds moisture in the topsoil, so seed establishes faster than on bare ground.

Benefits

  • Cuts topsoil loss on slopes and batters in the weeks before grass establishes
  • Cushions rainfall so it doesn't strip seed and soil off a graded slope
  • Photodegradable poly mesh holds the coir fibre together through handling and installation
  • Open weave lets light and water through, so seed underneath still germinates
  • Lays flat on steep grades without kinking or wrinkling
  • Holds moisture in the topsoil, so seed germinates faster than bare ground
  • Comes in a 2m x 50m roll at 5mm thick, covering ground fast on large sites

Main Applications

  • Covering cut batters and graded slopes on standard civil and earthworks sites
  • Protecting newly seeded areas while grass germinates and establishes root cover
  • Lining stockpile edges and exposed cut faces on general construction sites
  • Covering large exposed areas quickly where a fully biodegradable mat isn't specified
  • General slope and batter protection away from waterway or wildlife-sensitive sites

About Coconut Matting - 300GSM - 2m x 50m

How to install

Coconut Matting - 300GSM - 2m x 50m

  1. Grade and clear the area of large stones, clods and debris so the matting sits flush against the soil.
  2. Spread seed and any fertiliser over the prepared soil before laying the matting.
  3. Dig a small anchor trench across the top of the slope, roughly 150mm deep and wide.
  4. Unroll the matting down the slope in the direction of water flow, starting from the anchor trench.
  5. Backfill and compact the anchor trench to lock the top edge of the matting in place.
  6. Pin the matting down with ground staples along the edges and at regular intervals across the roll, keeping it flush with the soil.
  7. Overlap adjoining rolls by at least 150mm and staple through both layers to stop water getting underneath.
  8. Check the full area for gaps or lifted edges once installed, and add extra staples wherever the matting isn't sitting flush.

We suggest following the steps above for the best installation results. If you have any questions or need assistance, our team is here to help.
