Formatube is a wax-lined cardboard tube for forming round concrete columns, footings, piers, and void spaces in cast-in-place and precast work. Building formwork from timber or steel for a round column takes time and extra bracing that a straight tube doesn't need. Formatube's wax lining lets the form strip cleanly once the pour has set, and the lightweight cardboard construction means one person can position and cut it to length on site without lifting gear. It takes a single-lift pour at a rate of up to 4.5 metres per hour and pressure under 14kPa, and a release agent is optional except with harsher concrete mixes. Left in place, the tube also helps retain moisture during curing by reducing seepage and evaporation. Stripping is quick, typically 1 to 5 days after pouring, done with either two vertical power saw cuts or a linoleum knife cut followed by peeling the tube away.
