Surface Retarder delays the surface set of fresh concrete so the top layer of cement paste can be washed or brushed away later, exposing the aggregate underneath for an exposed aggregate finish. Trying to expose aggregate without a retarder means chasing a narrow window between too soft and too hard, and getting it wrong either way ruins the finish. This retarder is ideal for concrete of 20MPa or less, covering 3-5 square metres per litre. This is the 20L size. Precasters and concrete finishers use it for exposed aggregate driveways and similar decorative finishes.
