Bitumen Board fills expansion joints between concrete slabs and structures, giving the concrete room to move without cracking. Without a joint filler, adjacent slabs crack as they expand and contract with temperature, and an open joint fills with sand and grit that jams it solid and stops it working. This board is a dense fibreboard impregnated with bitumen at 35%, so it compresses under pressure without extruding out of the joint, and the bitumen seals out the debris that would otherwise choke it. Each sheet covers 2250mm x 1180mm at 12mm thick. It cuts to size with a utility knife or handsaw, and fixes to the edge of the concrete with nails or construction adhesive before the adjoining pour. Concrete contractors use it in slabs, roadways, footpaths, ramps, runways and retaining walls wherever a movement joint needs filling.
